St Mirren name Lennon manager

St Mirren

St Mirren have appointed Danny Lennon as their new manager.

The Paisley club confirmed the appointment after a compensation package was agreed with Cowdenbeath.

Lennon, 40, succeeds Gus MacPherson, who was sacked by Saints last month after seven years at the club.

Lennon - who was also linked with the managerial vacancy at Kilmarnock - found himself in demand after securing back-to-back promotions for Cowdenbeath, taking them into the Irn-Bru First Division next season.

The Clydesdale Bank Premier League side were granted permission to speak to the former Hibernian and Raith Rovers player on Friday but cash initially appeared to be a stumbling block.

Cowdenbeath revealed on Sunday they were holding out for compensation for their manager, claiming in a statement: "Contrary to reports in the media, the compensation sought is not 'excessive' but a comparatively modest sum that reflects the value of the outstanding contract."

A deal has now been struck, allowing Lennon to make the move to St Mirren, where he will be unveiled to the media at a press conference on Tuesday morning.
