Sussex humiliated

14 April 2012

Sussex endured a wretched first day in their Frizzell County Championship First Division clash at gale-lashed Arundel where Gloucestershire hustled them out for just 106 before replying soundly to reach 63 without loss.

Pace bowler Jonathan Lewis put the skids under the county champions by snapping up five for 33 in 13 overs to take his season's tally to 34.

Sussex, who gained their first championship win by beating Lancashire at Old Trafford in their last outing, were sent crashing to their lowest score of the season in just 43.4 overs after being put in.

The only other play yesterday was at New Road, where Surrey struggled to 16 for two, and at the Rose Bowl, where Yorkshire were 34 for one. Frizzell County Championship Div One - Arundel: Sussex 106, Gloucs 63-0 (14 overs); New Road: Surrey 16-2 (7 overs) v Worcs; Beckenham: Kent v Warwicks. Div Two - The Rose Bowl: Yorks 34-1 (10.4 overs) v Hants; Derby: Derbys v Essex; Sophia Gardens: Glamorgan v Durham; Taunton: Somerset v Leics. Varsity Match - Lord's: Cambridge v Oxford
