Sydney solution to empty arenas

Some of the secrets of the successful 2000 Sydney Games have emerged as organisers worry about the empty seats at some of the Athens venues.

In the run-up to the 2000 Games, the Australians got the Government to buy up tickets and give them to staff who had worked hard to make the event a success.

The empty seats in Athens, bad for TV pictures as well as for the atmosphere, are worrying the International Olympic Committee, who are determined to make sure the showpiece athletics events will be held in front of full crowds next week.
