Taylor flurry boosts Windies

Jerome Taylor hit a quickfire 43 to help West Indies recover from a middle-order collapse and post 263 for nine in South Africa all-rounder Shaun Pollock's hometown farewell.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the tourists made a solid start to the fourth one-day international with Brenton Parchment and Sewnarine Chattergoon putting on 97 for the first wicket.

The Windies slipped, however, to 206 for nine before Taylor's late cameo - his career-best 43 coming from just 21 balls - helped guide them to their highest total of the series.

Pollock, playing his penultimate international before retiring, made the breakthrough in the 24th over when he induced an outside edge from Chattergoon - on 48 - which was snapped up by wicketkeeper Mark Boucher.

Andre Nel then took two quick wickets, first trapping Parchment leg before wicket playing across the line also two runs short of his half-century and then having Marlon Samuels caught at short mid-wicket by Herschelle Gibbs for four.

Dwayne Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul put on 42 for the fourth wicket before the former was run out for the third time this series, on 18, after a good throw by AB de Villiers while attempting a quick single. Chanderpaul soon followed, caught at short fine leg by Graeme Smith off Johan Botha in the 39th over.

Darren Sammy was next to go as he spooned a leg-side glance into Boucher's gloves to leave the Windies on 167 for six before Patrick Browne fell for 34 off 24 balls as clever bowling by Morne Morkel saw him caught-and-bowled.

Three balls later, Morkel claimed his second scalp with a slow yorker which out-witted Rawl Lewis, who made 15 from eight balls.

The ninth wicket fell when Daren Powell was run out by Botha as he attempted a quick single to get off the mark.

Taylor and Fidel Edwards then took centre stage to put on 57 for the final wicket in 33 balls, including 24 off the final over by Ntini, who finished with one for 80 from nine overs.
