Taylor quits as England Under-21s boss

12 April 2012

Peter Taylor has quit his position as England Under-21 coach.

The 54-year-old Crystal Palace boss has decided to concentrate on his Selhurst Park commitments rather than divide his time between club and country.

"I can't do it anymore and devote my time to helping the team ahead of June's European Under-21 Championship in Holland," Taylor told BBC Sport.

He added: "Anybody coming in would have to commit a lot to the job. I'm sad but I've had a great time with England.

"I'm proud of having seen some players go on to the senior squad."

The Football Association are expected to announce Taylor's successor later on Thursday.
