Taylor tipped for Reading job

Peter Taylor is the latest name to emerge as a possible successor to Alan Pardew at Reading.

Tony Adams and Glenn Hoddle have both been linked with the job, but Standard Sport understands the Hull City manager is high on the Royals' shortlist.

Chairman John Madejski has already met Taylor, who was once touted as a future England manager and took temporary charge of the national team before Sven-Goran Eriksson's arrival.

Taylor's reputation was damaged by a disastrous spell at Leicester, but his new-look Hull team have made a good start to the season and are favourites for promotion from Division Three.

Reading, who visit Oxford tonight in the Carling Cup, have been inundated with applications for the position left vacant following Pardew's acrimonious departure for West Ham.

Former Arsenal captain Adams is also reported to be on the shortlist for what would be his first job in management. The 36-year-old, who retired as a player in 2002 following a series of injuries, is currently studying for a sports science degree.

He has made no secret of his desire to become a manager and is believed to have applied for the Reading job rather than being approached.

His adviser Steve Kutner refused to confirm an interest in Reading, but said: "We have been approached by a few clubs who have shown an interest in making Tony their manager and it is true that he wants to return to football as a coach."

Reading are not expected to make their appointment until after their next two games. Kevin Dillon, Pardew's old assistant, is in temporary charge of the first team.
