Simon Clegg, Team GB's chef de mission in Beijing, has been recognised for Britain's best medal haul at an Olympics for 100 years.

Clegg, who has worked for the British Olympic Association for 20 years, has received the JL Manning Award for outstanding contribution to sport.

Clegg said: "I'm flattered. It is a privilege to be involved in helping our athletes. If they succeed, we all bask in the reflected glory."

Past winners of the award include Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Clive Woodward.
