Andy Murray could do 'very well' at Wimbledon, says his mother

British tennis star Andy Murray could do "very well" at Wimbledon, his mother has said.

The 22-year-old has been seeded third for the event, which begins at the All England Club on Monday.

His triumph at the recent Queen's tournament has added to the expectation surrounding the Scot.

His mother Judy has revealed she would have "the usual butterflies in the stomach" when Wimbledon begins.

But she said she hoped her son - the world number three - could do well in the tournament.

She told BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme: "If he plays his best tennis, he can do very well there, and I hope that he does."

She added: "I think he's playing really solid, consistent tennis. He's improved his serve a lot in the last year. There's a lot more power in it, it's becoming more consistent and it's winning him a lot of relatively easy points.

"He's moving well. That's one of the biggest strengths of his game, his speed around the court and the way he can anticipate and read the game so well."

Mrs Murray also said her son was trying to "keep life as calm and normal" as possible in the run-up to Wimbledon.

She said: "He doesn't read the papers or listen to what people are saying and that's very important, to focus on what he has to do.
"So hopefully we can keep the hype down as much as we can when we're around him."
