Andy Murray has revealed how he winds down between matches — by performing menial domestic tasks such as stacking the dishwasher.

The British number one, who lives in Surrey with his wife Kim and their five-month-old daughter Sophia, said he “does his bit” at home and enjoys completing chores as a distraction while playing in high-pressure tournaments.

Murray, the favourite to win this year’s Wimbledon, said: “There is a bit of domestic life on my off days, around coming in to practice.

"I went and put petrol in the car the other night because I needed to refill before the drive in.

“I stacked the dishwasher, that’s kind of my job, and otherwise pretty much just help out with the family. I haven’t taken the bins out for the last few days, but I do my bit.”

In his BBC blog, Murray wrote about his quarter-final match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga tomorrow, adding he hopes the adrenaline pulls him through to the semi-finals.

Murray, 29, said he started thinking about his match with the French 12th seed when driving home from the All England Club last night following his straight sets victory against Australian “bad boy” Nick Kyrgios.

He said: “When I leave in the evening I don’t immediately switch off from tennis.

“On the journey home my thoughts turned straight to playing Tsonga — the Kyrgios match just isn’t relevant at that moment. When a tournament is finished I’ll reflect on it as a whole and speak with my team.”

On his next opponent, Murray added: “I’ve played Jo-Wilfried Tsonga a couple of times at Wimbledon and they both came down to a few points at key moments, so let’s hope the adrenaline pulls me through.”
