Andy Murray lost again as his comeback from almost a year out of the game continued against Kyle Edmund at Eastbourne.

Edmund, who succeeded Murray as British number one during the latter's long-term absence through injury, won the opening set 6-4 after breaking his opponent's serve and then rescued three break points.

Murray struggled to respond as Edmund also won the second set, securing a 6-4 6-4 victory.

Where Edmund was commanding on his own serve, Murray could often do little more than survive.

Defeat - the second in three matches since his return from injury - demonstrated how far Murray remains from the level he will need to be at to truly compete at Wimbledon, which begins on Monday.

Murray clinically despatched with Stan Wawrinka 6-1 6-3 in one hour and 17 minutes in the opening round on Monday.

The Scot is not seeded in the men’s Wimbledon draw, having dropped to No156 in the world following his lay-off with a hip injury.
