World No.1 Novak Djokovic’s bid for a record-equalling sixth ATP Finals title will get under way in a group featuring this year’s US Open runner-up Alexander Zverev.

Djokovic tops the Tokyo 1970 Group, a nod to the venue for the first running of the end-of-season event for what is its 50th anniversary.

He and Zverev are joined in the group by Daniil Medvedev, who beat Zverev on Sunday in winning the Paris Masters, and one of the surprise performers this season, Diego Schwartzman who reached the semi-finals of the French Open.

Zverev’s build-up to the London event has been dominated by abuse allegations by a former girlfriend, which the German vehemently denies.

The ATP Finals sees the best eight players in the world – minus Roger Federer who is missing with injury – battle it out at London’s O2 Arena from Sunday until the final the following Sunday.

The other group, the London 2020 Group, is topped by world No.2 and French Open champion Rafael Nadal. He is drawn in the same group as US Open champion Dominic Thiem, the ATP Finals defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev.

This year’s event, which normally welcomes quarter of a million fans to the venue across eight days and nights, will take place behind closed doors for what is London’s 12th and final time hosting it before its move to Turin next year.

The absent Federer currently holds the record of six ATP Finals victories.
