Francesca Schiavone vows to learn lesson

Francesca Schiavone knows she will have to up her game if she is to progress deep into this year's Wimbledon.

The 2010 French Open champion came through a tough encounter with former world No4 Jelena Dokic 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 on Centre Court yesterday and next faces Barbora Zahlavova, of the Czech Republic, in the second round.

Schiavone benefited when the match was suspended after two sets, so the roof could be closed to protect the players from the rain, after which Dokic's game seemed to fall apart.

The Italian said: "For the next round I must improve. This match was really tough and I kept thinking 'I must keep going'.

"For me [the rain] was fantastic because I started the third set and I couldn't understand why she was playing so aggressive and I couldn't move her.

"When they put the roof on, I went back to the locker room and spoke with Corrado Barazzutti [Italy's Fed Cup coach]. He told me something really important and I came back and played better."
