Heatwave to continue as fears of a Wimbledon washout subside

George Elek6 July 2017

Thursday at Wimbledon passed without the predicted showers and Day Five in SW19 promises to be another dry and warm afternoon.

Temperatures could reach 28C with just light winds around, so it will feel hot to both players and spectators for the fourth consecutive day.

The forecasted showers passed Wimbledon by, with two months' worth of rain initially expected over a matter of hours, which will relieve the tournament organisers as it now seems unlikely that they will have to reschedule play for People’s Sunday for the second year in a row.

Saturday looks set to be cooler, and there is the threat of some heavy showers early next week meaning Centre Court’s retractable roof could come into use.

Friday will see both major British hopes in action, with Andy Murray taking on Fabio Fognini and Johanna Konta up against the 21-year old Maria Sakkari in their third-round ties.

Should the rain start to fall, ensure you have a look at our guide to People’s Sunday, which includes information on how to get tickets to the possible extra day’s tennis.
