Judy Murray has stepped down as Great Britain's Fed Cup captain after five years in the role.

The news has come just hours after World No2 Andy Murray crashed out of the Master series event in Indian Wells losing Federico Delbonis 6-4 4-6 7-6 (7-3) in the third round.

The arrival of Murray’s daughter Sophia in February is understood to be one of the reasons for his mother to quit her role with the Fed Cup team as it would allow her to spend more time with the her grandchild.

Ex- British number one Anne Keothavong, who played 39 Fed Cup ties, is a contender to take over the position.
