Anne Keothavong and Elena Baltacha celebrated first-round victories and selection for Great Britain’s Olympics team on a day they will never forget.

Baltacha (above) and Keothavong were given wild cards for London 2012 and both are ecstatic about the chance to return to Wimbledon in national colours.

However, there are second-round matches in this Grand Slam to negotiate first with Baltacha’s 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Karin Kapp earning her a clash with defending champion Petra Kvitova.

Keothavong’s reward for a 6-3, 6‑3 win against Laura Pous-Tio is a probable meeting with 10th seed Sara Errani.

Baltacha said: “After the match, Judy [Murray] told me I’d been given a spot at the Olympics. That was it — there were tears everywhere.”
