Johanna Konta could yet play competitively again on British soil this summer despite the lack of Wimbledon.

Wimbledon was axed from the calendar for the first time since the Second World War because of the coronavirus pandemic.

But the British No1 could yet compete in the UK this summer. The LTA have said the National Championships will return for the first time since 2002 while Jamie Murray has been pushing a currently all-male ATP Finals-style tournament with a potential women’s format also being discussed.

Konta has not yet committed to either event, but told Standard Sport: "I play to compete, I don’t play to train. So, you miss it.

"I’ve heard Jamie talking about a women’s equivalent of what he’s organising some time in July. I don’t know what format it is, the size of it or how the tournament will work and for how long a period.

"There’s quite a few moving parts, but the intent is there, so it’s good to look forward to it."

The world No14 also admitted British tennis would provide the likeliest return for her to competition.

"Tennis is so global that, until we get back to normal with freedom of travel, it’s difficult to get tennis back on its feet properly," she added.
