New York will seem like a second home to Caroline Wozniacki by the end of the year.

The Dane, who will aim to extend her stay at the US Open when she takes on Shuai Peng in today’s semi-finals, will remain in the city for Fashion Week, which ends next Thursday, and will return in less than two months’ time for the New York Marathon.

Wozniacki will be running the marathon, which will be held on November 2, in aid of Team For Kids, a charity which provides health and fitness programmes to enable youngsters to get involved in sport. The former world No1 has always run as part of her training but admitted: “I feel really guilty because the last few days I have told myself I had better just cut down on my running. I have a pretty big tournament here that I want to try to win. So I actually haven’t been running that much.

“I’m going to run in Central Park after the tournament. I feel the marathon breathing down my neck and I need to keep preparing.”

Wozniacki believes the marathon training helps with her tennis. “You get into great shape,” she said. “You have to push yourself every day and go out and work hard. It’s a positive only when you go out on the court. You know you can run out there all day.”

Peng, the world No39, has lost her last five meetings with Wozniacki, who is through to her first Grand Slam semi-final for three years.

The other semi-final sees Serena Williams, the world No1, take on Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova, who beat the American at the Australian Open two years ago. Williams is aiming to win the title for the third year in a row.
