Ilie Nastase will be banned from the Royal Box at Wimbledon this summer if his suspension still stands.

The former world No.1 was punished by the International Tennis Federation for his abusive outbursts during Great Britain’s Fed Cup defeat away to Romania at the weekend.

Nastase was marched off the premises and the ITF said he “may not participate in the Fed Cup in any capacity with immediate effect”.

There is no timeframe for the suspension but the statement added he “shall be denied access to any ITF event, including the Fed Cup” until further investigation.

The 70-year-old has been a regular in Wimbledon’s Royal Box over the years but the All England Lawn Tennis Club said: "While he is suspended, he will not be invited."

The Romania captain branded British No1 Johanna Konta and team captain Anne Keothavong "f****** b******" during the tie, having already asked for Keothavong’s hotel room number at the pre-tie press conference.
