Heather Watson declared herself "ready for Wimbledon" after pushing Caroline Wozniacki to three sets in the semi-finals of the Aegon International.

The 25-year-old's 6-2 3-6 7-5 defeat meant that, on the same day her compatriot Johanna Konta was forced to withdraw through injury, she narrowly missed out on becoming the first Briton to reach the final at Eastbourne since Virginia Wade in 1976.

Despite losing to the former world number one, her progress to the final four - her and Konta's presence there meant Britain had two semi-finallists for the first time ever - represented fine preparation for SW19.

She faces Belgium's little-known Maryna Zanevska there in the opening round, and of her form in Eastbourne said: "I'm pleased. It's been a good week. I'm feeling ready for Wimbledon.

"(I've had) lots of court time. I'm feeling great about my game and got some great match wins under my belt this week. I'm feeling confident going into next week.

"I'm feeling optimistic (about meeting Zanevska), feeling great within myself going into next week.

"I'm pretty disappointed that I lost. (But) as far as my performance goes, I'm pleased with how I fought back and got myself back into the match."
