Simona Halep has ended the tennis season top of the WTA rankings for the second consecutive season.

Halep holds onto the number one spot despite missing the WTA finals due to a herniated disc suffered during a training session before September’s Wuhan Open.

The Romanian, who won her first grand slam at this year’s French Open, finishes ahead of Angelique Kerber in second place followed by Caroline Wozniacki, Elina Svitolina and Naomi Osaka.

Halep is set to start the new season without a new coach after parting ways with Darren Cahill.

“I thought about it and I will not have a coach in the following period,” she told the Romanian press.

“I want to go to some tournaments on my own and we’ll see how that goes.”
