Terry: Contract talks have stalled

12 April 2012

England captain John Terry has reported "no movement" on his contract situation at Chelsea - but he remains adamant that he wants to stay at the club for the rest of his career.

The Blues defender confirmed for the first time that talks between himself and the club have broken down but insisted the situation was not irretrievable.

Terry said: "The offer has been made but it has gone no further than that. I won't be me making the next move. I said to the club that I want to stay."

The England skipper also maintained he would not be making the next move in a bid to solve the impasse as his future and those of midfielder Frank Lampard and coach Jose Mourinho continue to cloud a sensational season for the club.

Terry added: "Negotiations have broken down, like they do throughout contracts, but who knows when we are going to be speaking again?

"I am not going in as I said. I've got so many more important things on my mind. It is more important for me to be on the pitch and making sure everyone is ready going into these games. That is my role as captain and Chelsea player.

"The situation is retrievable and it is not linked to what Jose does. Definitely not.

"He's been great for me and hopefully the club will do the right thing by him, myself and Frank Lampard - who is up for renewal.

"I've made it clear, Frank has and the manager has, that we all want to stay. We are a tight-knit family and we want to keep it that way for many years. If we can keep Frank and the manager, we can achieve great things at Chelsea over the years."
