Terry trains with England

John Terry trained on Monday morning ahead of what is set to be an intriguing return as England captain at Wembley on Tuesday night.

After sitting out Saturday's 1-0 win over Spain, Terry has been pencilled in by coach Fabio Capello to regain the captain's armband for the encounter with Sweden.

It will be the first time Terry has played for his country since racism allegations against him first surfaced, which he strenuously denies.

In his capacity as captain, Terry is due to speak to the media at England's team hotel in Watford on Monday afternoon, although it is believed reporters will be prevented from discussing the case involving QPR's Anton Ferdinand, which is subject to both police and Football Association investigations.

However, the way Terry handles the situation will be analysed to a huge degree even if his off-field issues have so far been approached with amazing calmness by the 30-year-old.

There was certainly no hint of any issue troubling him as he trained at London Colney on Monday morning, chatting amiably with Chelsea team-mate Ashley Cole as he jogged around the perimeter of the pitch with the rest of his England colleagues.

As Phil Jagielka has now returned to Everton following his release by Capello on Sunday, 23 players were left to train including Daniel Sturridge, who will make his debut against the Swedes.

Tottenham defender Kyle Walker, Fulham striker Bobby Zamora and Bolton centre-half Gary Cahill have also been told they will start against a team who have a fine record against England and have not lost in the fixture since 1968.
