Tessem's first impression wins over Wise

Millwall 1 Nottingham Forest 0

Dennis Wise has already decided he wants to extend Jo Tessem's stay at The Den.

The Norwegian striker impressed in his first game of a month on loan as Millwall held on to beat Forest despite having Andy Dunne sent off 15 minutes before the end.

Tessem, 32, is looking for a permanent move after falling out of favour at Southampton. He is in the final year of his contract at St Mary's and has the Premiership experience Wise has been searching for.

The Millwall boss said: "Having Tessem is a bonus because you can see what a good touch he has on the ball. We would certainly like to keep him longer than a month."

Millwall hung on for an important win after a draining UEFA Cup exit against Ferencvaros in Hungary on Thursday.

Dunne was dismissed for his second booking but Forest could not find a way past the brilliant Graham Stack.

The on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper pulled off a string of great saves against Paul Evans, Andy Impey and Marlon King to preserve the lead created by David Livermore's first-half goal.

The midfielder curled in a 45th-minute freekick from 20 yards after Dunne had been fouled by Evans and Wise now believes that with Barry Hayles to come back into the side, Millwall can climb the Championship table.

He said: "The team showed great determination and character and we have put ourselves in a useful position in ninth spot with games in hand and the chance to get a few players back.

"There were a lot of tired bodies and they did magnificently to hold on for a win against a Forest side who played very well.

"The star of the show was obviously Stacky, who made some outstanding saves, but the likes of Dunne and Mark Phillips, who haven't played a lot of games recently, made a tremendous contribution."
