Tevez stars as City go second

Captain Carlos Tevez rode to Manchester City's rescue as his brace earned them a dramatic 3-2 win over Blackpool.

Despite being second best for the majority of the game, Tevez gave Roberto Mancini's men the lead, albeit from a seemingly offside position, when he flicked home David Silva's cross in the 67th minute.

But Blackpool hit back as Marlon Harewood nodded beyond Joe Hart with 12 minutes remaining, only for Tevez to score again within a minute as he robbed Ian Evatt on the edge of the area and drove home with the assistance of a Craig Cathcart deflection, before Silva wrapped things up.

City started well and Vincent Kompany had a header beaten away by Matt Gilks, but Blackpool were better on the ball and could have scored themselves when DJ Campbell put a header wide of the goal.

City struggled to live with Blackpool's passing game at times, but could have poached a goal just before the break had Joleon Lescott, Emmanuel Adebayor and Tevez all not failed to get a true connection with a bouncing ball in the box.

Campbell then missed a golden chance when he found himself one-on-one with Hart, and Gary Taylor-Fletcher had an effort ruled out for offside before Tevez took over, and he could have had a hat-trick had a late drive not crashed off the bar.

Silva then crashed the woodwork with a low drive, before picking up a loose ball in the box and curling beyond Gilks' reach.

The drama was not over, though, and a well-worked corner from the home side saw Taylor-Fletcher prod home from close range but there was not enough time left for them to score again.
