Thomas blow for Wales

12 April 2012

Jonathan Thomas has pulled out of the Wales side for tonight's World Cup clash with Japan after failing to recover from a broken finger.

In Thomas' absence, Martyn Williams comes back into the side to start at open-side flanker, with Colin Charvis switching to the blind side. Michael Owen is promoted to the bench.

"We have consulted specialist advice about Jon's injury and reached the conclusion that it would be wrong to risk him," said head coach Gareth Jenkins.

"We are blessed with a wealth of strength in our back row and are able to call on two former British Lions to come into the match-day squad in Martyn and Michael Owen.

"The change of personnel should not affect the balance of our pack and we look forward to Jonathan returning to full training next week."
