1. Holland v Italy - Wesley Sneijder

Giovanni van Bronckhorst cleared off his own line before Holland broke at pace.

Van Bronckhorst’s crossfield ball was headed back by Dirk Kuyt and Sneijder scored in a move that took only 17 seconds.

2. Holland v France - Robin van Persie

The Dutch appeared to be conducting their own ‘Goal of the Tournament’.

This one was special because of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s double dragback on halfway
that opened up France before Arjen Robben’s searing pace created the finish for fellow substitute van Persie.

3. Germany v Turkey - Philipp Lahm

The 90 minutes are up. You have just blundered to concede an equaliser and, receiving possession close to the dugouts, a red sea of nine Turkish shirts blocks your path to goal.

A pacy run and a one-two later and the ball was in Rustu Recber’s net and Germany were in the final.

If Ashley Cole or Wayne Bridge had scored it, the BBC would have been on air until midnight ...
