Christian Eriksen has completed a £17million transfer from Tottenham to Inter Milan, bringing down the curtain on a six-and-a-half year spell in north London.

Eriksen has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Inter until 30 June 2024 after completing a medical on Monday, and he could make his debut in the Serie A match at Udinese on Sunday. He will reportedly earn £170,000-a-week at the San Siro and is the third Inter signing from the Premier League this month after Ashley Young from Manchester United and Chelsea's Victor Moses.

"I couldn’t wait to join, it’s wonderful to be here and I’m happy to be a new Inter player," Eriksen said. "I’m very excited and can’t wait to introduce myself to the fans. I’ve already experienced their warmth, it’s been a fantastic welcome. I feel great."

As part of the deal, Inter will reportedly pay Eriksen's former club Ajax €1m (£837k) in solidarity payment, while Spurs will pockets the proceeds from a friendly with the Italian club.

Eriksen, who is expected to expected to be unveiled before tomorrow's Coppa Italia quarter-final against Fiorentina at the San Siro, had refused to sign a new contract at Spurs and could have left the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Denmark international, 27, joined Spurs from Ajax for £11.5million, as one of seven signings in summer 2013, funded by Gareth Bale's world-record £85m move to Real Madrid.

He was by far the most successful addition of the summer and his departure – after 306 appearances, 69 goals and 89 assists – leaves Erik Lamela as the last remaining member of the 'Magnificent Seven' at the club.

The Dane twice won Tottenham's player of the year award – in 2013-14 and 2016-17 – but could not help them to silverware, finishing as runner-up in the 2014 League Cup and 2019 Champions League.
