Tottenham surprised by Danny Rose comments concerning his future
Tottenham chiefs have been left surprised by full-back Danny Rose’s comments this week concerning his future at the club.
Rose said he does not know if he will be at Spurs next season, with the 28-year-old suggesting the club typically try to move on players of a certain age.
“It’s not about regular first-team football. I know my age and I know how the club’s run,” said Rose, who made 36 appearances in all competitions this season.
“I’ll be just sitting tight over the next few weeks and just seeing what happens. Either way, I’m prepared for whatever happens.”
Unlike rivals Chelsea, Spurs do not have a hard-and-fast rule about moving on players approaching 30 and Rose’s comments, made while on Nations League duty with England, came out of the blue, with club sources insisting that no decision has been made on his future.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was impressed by Rose’s form towards the end of last season, starting him in the Champions League Final defeat by Liverpool ahead of Ben Davies.
Spurs are interested in Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, who can play at left-back, but there is every chance Rose, who has a deal until 2021, could stay put, with the club focused on finding new clubs for unwanted players, such as Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.

Denmark midfielder Eriksen, who has one year left on his contract, has said he wants to “try something new” and hopes Real Madrid will act on their long-standing interest.
But central defender Vertonghen, 32, told Sky Sports: “When the transfer window starts, there are a lot of rumours, but there were rumours last year and everyone stayed together, so I’m hopeful [he will stay].
“Christian is a great player. I have known him since he was 16, played with him since he was 16 or 17 [at Ajax] and I hope he’s with Tottenham next season. He’s an exceptional player.”
