Tottenham's first Champions League game in their new stadium against Manchester City was disrupted when a pitch invader ran on the field of play.

The man, dressed in all black, appeared to confront City defender Fabian Delph in the closing moments of the game before Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino personally intervened by running onto the pitch.

Referee Bjorn Kuipers then prevented Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen from getting involved, before the fan was escorted off the pitch by a match steward.

Pochettino was captured by TV cameras shaking his head disapprovingly as he walked off, with the incident coming in just the second game at the £1billion arena.

The incident soured what had been a perfect evening for Tottenham in their new home after Heung-min Son's goal gave Spurs a 1-0 advantage to take to the Etihad Stadium in eight days' time.

The club could now face possible disciplinary action from Uefa for failing to prevent the fan from entering the pitch.

It is the latest in a series of pitch invasions of late after a Birmingham City fan was jailed for 14 weeks after attacking Aston Villa player Jack Grealish last month during the Midlands derby.

On the same day, a fan ran onto the pitch during Arsenal's Premier League game against Manchester United and was issued a lifetime ban by the club after shoving United's Chris Smalling.
