Tresco eyes England comeback

12 April 2012

England batsman Marcus Trescothick believes he still has a future at international level and has not ruled out touring with the team again.

The Somerset opener came home early from England's trip to India last year because of a stress-related illness and the problem reared its head again during the Ashes series in Australia, forcing another premature return to England.

However, Trescothick told the Daily Mirror: "I don't accept my England days are over and I don't accept I will never tour again."

The 31-year-old left-hander still has a central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board and has been included in new coach Peter Moore's 25-strong development squad for this summer.

He added: "Sure, I'm going to have to cope with the problems of touring differently, and that's part of the healing process.

"But much as I would love to tell them I'm fully fit and playing nicely, I can't jump straight back into playing for England. It wouldn't be fair to me or to the team.

"I don't want to go through the problems I've had before, where I just become a shambles, and there's no rush. I'm 31 and there's plenty of time to get it right."
