Triple boost for Tosh

14 April 2012

John Toshack has been able to recall three injured stars for the Wales squad to face Bulgaria in a friendly at Swansea on August 15.

For what is Wales' last run-out before the Euro 2008 qualifiers start in the Czech Republic on September 2, the national boss has been boosted by the return of Mark Delaney, Sam Ricketts and Danny Coyne.

Delaney spent much of last season struggling with a knee problem, but has figured in Aston Villa's pre-season matches and is an experienced player Toshack desperately wants in his defence.

Burnley goalkeeper Coyne has missed 12 months with a serious cruciate knee injury, but has returned this summer and taken part in the Lancashire club's recent trip to Italy.

He is still well short of match fitness, but Toshack wants him back in the squad to re-establish himself as soon as possible.

Ricketts, having just moved from Swansea to Hull, was believed to have broken his foot and faced a long spell on the sidelines. But the injury is not as bad as first feared, and the left-back could well be in the starting line-up against the Bulgarians.

Toshack now looks to have settled on his squad for the qualifiers, which means keeper Jason Brown, now with Premiership side Blackburn, Derby youngster Lewin Nyatanga, Bristol City striker David Cotterill and Cardiff's versatile Joe Ledley seem to have made the jump to the seniors on a permanent basis.
