Umaga gets top player award

All Black wing Tana Umaga is New Zealand's new Player of the Year.

The wing collected the Kel Tremain Memorial Trophy in Wellington yesterday ahead of Todd Blackadder and Jonah Lomu. Chris Latham, Matt Burke's post-World Cup replacement at full back, has collected the Australian award, as voted for by the players.

Their decision makes his predecessor's return during the European tour starting next week anything but a foregone conclusion.
