US Open: UK tee times and pairings for final round at Torrey Pines with Rory McIlroy in contention

George Flood20 June 2021

Rory McIlroy is bidding to end a major drought stretching back seven years at the US Open on Sunday.

Not since his memorable Open and USA PGA Championship double in 2014 has the Northern Irishman tasted glory on golf’s biggest stages, though he has put himself in a fine position to mount a serious charge on the final day at Torrey Pines.

McIlroy - whose maiden major triumph came at the 2011 US Open at Congressional Country Club - is just two shots off the lead heading into round four in California after shooting a four-under 67 on day three to move to three-under for the tournament.

Russell Henley, Mackenzie Hughes and Louis Oosthuizen are in a three-way tie for the lead on five-under as it stands, with the latter’s 50ft eagle putt on the 18th green on Saturday providing a huge confidence boost ahead of what looks set to be an incredibly exciting conclusion to the tournament.

None of those leaders will be sitting comfortably, however, with defending US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau lurking level with McIlroy on three-under.

Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Matthew Wolff are a further stroke back, with a string of dangerous players on one-under including world no1 Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele.
