Vettori ruled out for Black Caps

12 April 2012

Outsiders New Zealand were dealt a huge blow in the Champions Trophy final with captain Daniel Vettori ruled out through injury.

Vettori, arguably the Black Caps' best player, was sidelined with a hamstring strain which meant Brendon McCullum led the team.

New Zealand's entire campaign has been jinxed by injury, with Jacob Oram, Jesse Ryder and Daryl Tuffey all crocked and replaced in the 15-man squad during the event.

McCullum won the toss and opted to bat first in the day-night contest.

The New Zealanders drafted in off-spinner Jeetan Patel in Vettori's place.

Holders Australia, meanwhile, named the same XI which crushed England by nine wickets on Friday night.
