Villa concerns over keeper

12 April 2012

Aston Villa could be plunged into a goalkeeping crisis for Saturday evening's home Barclays Premiership clash with Bolton after Stuart Taylor suffered a knee injury in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.

Taylor was limping badly during the closing stages at Bramall Lane after a fine performance and the former Arsenal player was unable to take goal-kicks. He is currently deputising for Villa number one Thomas Sorensen who is sidelined with the knee injury.

Martin O'Neill confirmed: "Stuart made some great saves but he picked up a knee injury. He was examined by the physios and doctors after the game. Hopefully we'll have more news soon."

It could mean a first team debut for Austria Under-21 keeper Robert Olejnik against Sam Allardyce's side.

Olejnik, 20, was signed by O'Neill's successor David O'Leary in 2003 as a possible long-term replacement for Sorensen from FK Austria Wien and signed professional forms 12 months later.

Olejnik - nicknamed "The Beast" because of his bulky frame - has been on the substitutes' bench for the last three games with Manchester City, Portsmouth and the Blades.

The player has represented Austria at under-17 and under-19 level and made his under-21 debut for his country this season.

But it would be a demanding test if he has to face the physical challenge provided by Bolton.

Villa's only other goalkeepers are 18-year-olds Lee Boyle and Stephen Henderson.

Defender Wilfred Bouma is also battling to be fit after suffering a head injury which required several stitches against Neil Warnock's side.
