Villa reject £15m Liverpool bid

13 April 2012

Aston Villa confirmed today they have turned down Liverpool's increased bid of around £15miilion for captain Gareth Barry.

A Villa spokesman said: "The offer was a slight improvement but our position remains unchanged."

Barry must now wait to see if Liverpool return with yet another bid. It is believed previous offers for the 27-year-old England midfielder included a cash-plus-player deal.

Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson spent the whole of last season on loan at Villa Park and manager Martin O'Neill would like to make the move permanent.

France defender Patrice Evra, at present involved in Euro 2008, has signed a four-year contract extension at Manchester United.

Crystal Palace have signed Charlton defender Paddy McCarthy for £500,000. The 25-year-old Irish centre-half has agreed a three-year deal and manager Neil Warnock said: "I've chased Paddy for five years. I'm delighted to get him."
