Walder set to fly against Barbarians

Dave Walder will take over from Newcastle team-mate Jonny Wilkinson as England's fly half against the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday.

The uncapped Walder, who generally plays at full back for Newcastle, occasionally steps in at stand off when Wilkinson is rested.

He will be joined in the side by club colleague Michael Stephenson, who has been named on the wing despite being selected in coach Clive Wood-ward's 40-man party for next month's tour to North America as a full back.

Triple champions Leicester provide a sizeable contingent, with former Lion Tim Stimpson joined by club colleague Leon Lloyd in the starting line-up and fellow Tigers Dorian West, Graham Rowntree, Ben Kay and Martin Corry on the replacements' bench.

The game has been hastily arranged to provide much-needed match practice for the fledgling England side before they travel across the Atlantic for two Tests against Canada and one against the United States and will provide useful information for Woodward's coaching party, which is shorn of Andy Robinson and Phil Larder owing to Lions commitments.

Saracens scrum half Kyran Bracken will captain the side, which also features Paul Sampson, the Premiership's top try-scorer, on the other wing. Saracens prop Julian White and Bath lock Steve Borthwick are the only men who started in England's last outing - a Six Nations hammering of France at Twickenham last month.

Walder, Stephenson, Sale's Alex Sanderson and Gloucester's Andy Hazell all make England debuts but will not receive caps for this game.
