Watford stand gets go-ahead

13 April 2012

Watford were granted planning permission to build a new main stand at Vicarage Road last night.

Watford Council approved their plans while Gianluca Vialli's team were disposing of First Division promotion rivals Norwich 2-1.

The new East Stand is expected to have a capacity of just over 4,000 and cost £7.5million.

Vicarage Road presently has a capacity of 20,800, but there is a potential for just over 28,000 once all the work is completed.

Vialli, meanwhile, was delighted with their win.

After seeing Micah Hyde and Allan Nielsen score, he said: "This season we have disappointed and finally we gave the fans something. We were able to repay them because the football we played in the first half was solid." BRENTFORD lost a five-goal thriller against fellow Division Two promotion-chasers Oldham to leave them in fifth place.

Oldham' David Eyres cancelled out Ben Burgess's opener.

An Allan Smart double gave the home side a two-goal cushion and Burgess scored a consolation for Brentford with his second three minutes from the end.
