Wenger feels something is finishing

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he will review his position at the end of the season, hinting this could be his last campaign in charge of the club.

The 62-year-old has managed Arsenal since 1996 and his current contract has two more years to run.

However, he told L'Equipe: "We'll look at things at the end of this season. What's hard is the feeling something is finishing. For me, we're now talking short term, it's obvious. But whether it's with me or someone else, it changes nothing. My successor needs foundations on which he can be successful."

Wenger has led Arsenal to three Premier League titles and four FA Cups, but has not won a trophy since 2005.

And he admitted the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri to Barcelona and Manchester City respectively have not helped the situation.

Wenger added: "For the first time I lost young players who were reaching maturity. I suffered. It's painful to lose key men you have invested a lot in."

The Frenchman believes he will have a better idea of where the team will finish the season next month.

The Gunners made a slow start to the current campaign but have made progress up the table in recent weeks.

He added: "We'll see in December where we can finish. It was necessary to reconstruct the squad in a climate where we were lacking confidence. It takes time."
