Wenger hails hot-shot Henry

Arsene Wenger hailed Thierry Henry's European strike rate as "tremendous" after the Arsenal captain set the Gunners on their way to a 2-0 Champions League win over Porto.

Henry scored his 50th European goal with a first-half header and came into his own as Arsenal bossed proceedings at the Emirates Stadium.

"Thierry doesn't only play to score goals so to score 50 in Europe is a tremendous performance," said Wenger. "The numbers don't lie. You will not find many players who have scored more goals in Europe than he has."

Alexander Hleb rifled in Arsenal's second just three minutes into the second half after excellent work on the edge of the Porto box from William Gallas and Henry.

Arsenal could have had more but Robin van Persie blasted a golden opportunity over the crossbar from eight yards and Kolo Toure had a goal disallowed.

Victory over CSKA Moscow on October 17 would all-but guarantee safe passage to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Wenger celebrates 10 years in charge of Arsenal on Thursday. He has no special plans to mark the day - "just training and working to win the next game" - and he is not comfortable reflecting on how far he has taken Arsenal in the last decade.

In Wenger's eyes the job is not yet done.

"I think sometimes about how things have changed. These (surroundings at the Emirates Stadium) are concrete signs the club is going the right way," he said. "We want to continue to develop the club.

"Reaching the final last year has given us belief and frustration as well. We try to transform that frustration into more motivation, We were very, very close to the line. We have a young team and feel we can improve. The players that joined us are getting stronger and stronger. Players like William Gallas and Tomas Rosicky had great performances."
