Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to get involved in the debate surrounding Wayne Rooney's future at Manchester United but believes the Red Devils may struggle to regain the Barclays Premier League title whether or not he is in the side.

The Frenchman, who managed to convince one of his own star men, Cesc Fabregas, to stay in the summer following interest from Barcelona, did not wish to comment on what would happen regarding Rooney. The 24-year-old's future at Old Trafford is in question amid reports his negotiations over a new United contract have stalled.

Asked what he made of the reports, Wenger told The Sun: "What I make of it is that I have enough problems here not to be involved in that. We are not in a transfer period at all."

He added: "Any little incident at Manchester United or Arsenal becomes a big story, but it doesn't mean that there is something real behind the story.

"Maybe yes, maybe no - but I don't know enough to be involved in that.

"Chelsea won the championship last year. Rooney was at Manchester United and that didn't stop Chelsea from winning the championship."
