Close: The midfielders could be ready for the game against QPR at Upton Park
Standard Sport25 September 2014

Kevin Nolan and Matt Jarvis returned to training today raising hoped they could be back in action next week.

Midfielder Nolan (shoulder) has been out since he was hurt in the first game of the campaign against Tottenham, while winger Jarvis (hip) has not featured at all this term.

They will not be ready to face Manchester United on Saturday but could be available for the home game against Queens Park Rangers the following week.

For boss Sam Allardyce this is perfect having just lost Cheikhou Kouyate for six weeks with a groin problem.

Striker Andy Carroll’s return from a long-term ankle complaint has been earmarked for December.

Meanwhile, Allardyce hopes to make the most of Manchester United’s lack of confidence to secure a shock win at Old Trafford.

United have made their worst ever start to a Premier League season and slumped to a 5-3 defeat at Leicester.

Allardyce said: “We’ll still be underdogs but hopefully we can give an outstanding performance and get a result.”
