White facing anxious wait

Kelli White faces an agonising wait of at least four days to see if she can keep her two sprint gold medals from the World Athletics Championships after a positive drugs test.

Leading officials from the IAAF, the governing body of athletics, said that no decision about the test would made before Thursday.

White, the first American to win the 100 and 200metres double, tested positive for the stimulant modafinil after last weekend's 100m final.

The substance is currently not on the banned list of drugs but IAAF medical experts say it is related to prohibited substances.

The governing body is analysing the details of the case which could lead to White being banned for two years as well as losing her medals.

"There is a lot of research to be done. We also have to look at her medical records," IAAF general secretary Istvan Gyulai said.
