Wie shocked by slump

12 April 2012

Michelle Wie slumped to last place on her European Tour debut and admitted she was shocked by her performance at the Omega European Masters.

Wie added a second-round 79 to her opening 78 for a 15-over-par total of 157, 22 shots behind clubhouse leaders Bradley Dredge, Marcel Siem and Andrew McLardy. Sandro Tan-Piaget had finished on 16 over but was disqualified for signing for a wrong score, while Gary Murphy admitted he was "sweating" after securing a par on the last to finish one better than Wie on 14 over.

Wie, who has now missed the cut in nine of her 10 appearances in men's events, said: "I'm still in shock. I didn't know what sport I was playing. I couldn't get any of my shots to go but things like today don't scare me away. It makes me more motivated."
