Did you know...

  • During Wimbledon, 42 cameras and 32 VTR machines will be used with over 50 miles of cables.
  • The very 1st tennis championships were held in Wimbledon in 1877 with 22 players competing. The 1st women’s singles match and men’s doubles match was held in 1884.
  • The youngest ever Wimbledon Champion was 15 year old Martina Hingis in 1996. The youngest man ever to win the men’s singles match at Wimbledon was 17yr old Boris Becker in 1985.
  • All official tennis balls were made white until the late 1960s. It wasn’t until 1972 that the International Lawn Tennis Federation allowed yellow balls to be used in its sanctioned tennis tournaments, as the balls were thought to be more visible to television viewers. Yellow balls were first used at Wimbledon in 1986.
  • There are 92 trillion blades of grass at the All England Club
