Windies make two changes

12 April 2012

West Indies have made two changes to their line-up for the final npower Test against England after rain finally relented to allow a delayed start at Chester-le-Street.

The tourists, 2-0 down in the series after defeats at Headingley and Old Trafford, had hoped to build on their encouraging performance in Manchester.

But a hamstring injury to all-rounder Darren Sammy, who claimed seven wickets on his debut at Old Trafford, has forced him to be replaced by Marlon Samuels, while Jerome Taylor was dropped for Daren Powell.

England also made one change from their winning line-up in the previous Test, with Yorkshire seamer Matthew Hoggard returning to the side after missing two Tests with a thigh strain.

Hoggard has replaced Durham seamer Liam Plunkett.

He was given an early chance to impress after England captain Michael Vaughan won the toss, which was delayed until 1.30pm after early-morning rain, and decided to bowl first in seamer-friendly conditions.
