Wise move for Redknapp

14 April 2012

Harry Redknapp has targeted former Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise as the man to lead Southampton's charge back into the Premiership

The 38-year-old stepped down as Millwall player-manager at the end of last season and is looking for a new club to prolong his playing career.

Redknapp is renowned for bringing the best out of experienced players, such as Paul Merson and Teddy Sheringham, and is desperate to secure Wise's signature ahead of the forthcoming Championship campaign.

"I'd love to bring him here and I'm certainly trying to," he told BBC Online.
"He's the sort of player I'm after, I want to bring in players with character and experience.

"We've made him an offer but it may be that he feels he's better off elsewhere.

"It's going to be a very open division and a real battle to go straight back up. There are going to be about nine teams in with a chance of automatic promotion."
