A penalty ten minutes from time by full back Russell Martin settled thishard-fought tie in which Worthing boasted the more dangerous backs andVarndean controlled most of the proceedings up front.

Worthing led 14-12 athalf time with tries from Matthew Woodcock and centre Wade Bennett-Jackson.

Scott Harris converted both and kicked a second half penalty.

No 8John Medhurst and centre Tom Rajan got the first half tries for Varndeanand they added a third after the break through wing Dean Mason-Ting.

Martin's three-pointer gave them the edge and they survived heavy pressureto earn a visit to St Olave's, Orpington.
