Yousuf breaks Richards record

12 April 2012

Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf has broken Viv Richards' 30-year-old record for the most runs scored in a calendar year.

Yousuf, 32, struck a boundary to reach 48 not out on the fourth day of the third Test against West Indies in Karachi, and in doing so surpassed the mark of 1,710 runs struck by the Carribean legend in 1976.

Richards reached the landmark over the course of 11 Tests and the Karachi Test is Yousuf's 11th of 2006, during which time he has scored eight centuries, another record.
