13 April 2012

Zoe Baker lowered her own European 50 metres breaststroke mark on day one of the British Championships in Manchester.

The 26-year-old finished in 31.04secs and said: "I'm aiming for South African Penny Heyns' world record in tomorrow's final." She will have to go 0.22 quicker to clinch that.

Karen Pickering won the 200m freestyle in the Championships, which double as this summer's Commonwealth Games trials.

In the men's 200m butterfly, Stephen Parry edged out James Hickman by 0.57sec, winning in 1.57.64.
